DIY Sunset Beach tank top

Tervitusi* from Estonia! I was waiting so long this summer to stop working for a while and come to Tartu. Spending time with your old friends and taking it slow is def the meaning of the summer. It's so sunny and hot and I want to eat only watermelons and wear tank tops.

Tank tops aka A-shirts are the thing for me this summer. I feel so light and healthy and not feeling like covering my skin too much. I am not used to wear sleeveless shirts and that's why I don't own that many of these. But it's not that difficult to do it yourself from an old t-shirt. Especially if you are not looking for a proper and fit looking result, you can just leave the borders unfinished.

I used my old fav tank top as the "pattern" to get the approximate picture where to start cutting.  The old top is pretty skin-tight which my sister brought me from Thailand! I would die to go to Thailand, just imagine eating cheap and super ripe fruits and freshly sqeezed fruit juices all day long! Mmmm....

This t-shirt I got from my friend who didn't like it anymore. It's a bit too large for me but who cares, the colors are rocking! I hope I will get to own the shorts too! Real vintage!

*Tervitusi means greetings in Estonian

All best and keep on DIY

African wood

The weather has been perfectly hot and sunny the whole week and I even got some tan! Being all the time outside and wearing tanktops, yeah, I could do that all year long. If only I lived in a hot climate with summerish winters!

During this week, I accidentally visited more second hand shops than I normally would. Yesterday I bought a lot of stuff, including some interesting textiles, raw food books, shirts that I'd like to turn into tanktops, huge leather coat that I got for free (I am dreaming of white leather tanktop) and a huge wooden African style necklace.

I am really into wooden accessories. They have more value to me than some shiny crappy metal rings, bracelets and other stuff you find everywhere. The one I found for five euros is so huge and noisy, like a musical instrument when you walk with it. A proper wooden statement necklace, that will get barely noticeable when worn on a green or brown garment. Although it looks like an African style necklace, I have no idea where is it produced or where is the tree material from. I wonder if I am its second owner or maybe the tenth? But now it is mine and it's my turn to enjoy it!

 Dear readers,
Before you run to H&M, Gina Tricot or Seppälä stores, please visit your second hands first.
You might even find clothes that are produced in your own country!

Love,
Aalo

Old times, good times!

Time flies fast but that's okay. It's been over two months since my last blog entry. Meanwhile I've been doing so much stuff and many beautiful and happy things happened to me. I've been surrounded by good energy and beautiful people. Here I would like to share few important moments with you. This post won't be as fashionable as my previous ones, it will be about the happy dude behind this blog. And maybe a bit too much around electronics than it is healthy. I like shiny toys, what can I do?!

I couldn't figure out what would be a better way to describe past time than Instagram. If you are using it all the time, it will become a diary of your life in pictures. Which suits me well because I'll rather look at imagery than read text. And that's been from my early childhood. Call me lazy if you wish!

As a "work" or assignment camera I am using my super fancy Nikon D800 babe. With built-in 36mplx the image quality is really good and I am very happy with it but the thing is, it's heavy as hell! Having one kilogram of camera body plus several lenses hanging on your shoulder is kind of *ouch* on long outdoor sessions. And too heavy for an always-with-ya photomachine. I felt like I need something tiny, light and with a good photo quality. 200% of my images are photoshopped so the new camera should shoot RAW images not only JPEG. Most of the point and shoot cameras, even the advanced one with RAW image formats, seemed to be kinda crappy and limited in their possibilities. After a long search and analysis I decided to go for a micro DSLR and I should say I'm lovin' it!

Here is a selfie with the little, cute and very light Sony NEX-F3 with a fancy flip screen. The photo is taken with a phone, though.

Meanwhile I bleached my eyebrows again. Don't ask why. Soon I need to bleach them again.

Soon all the snow was gone and everything became beautiful, vibrant and full of energy. I love flowers so much!

 And I was blooming too!

The time of the year was coming closer, when we get older... Soon was my birthday. My dear mom and my sister surprised me with a lovely gift which was totally unexpected. I was a bit mad at them too, because I hate when other people spend money on me! My mom said: "I don't want that my son was traveling with a broken phone!". Which was true, I dropped my iPhone 3gs on the floor and the screen got broken. But that was two years ago and it is still working like a charm!

Later on, at a birthday party, I received a white Samsung Galaxy Tablet... I warned you, this post will be very Hi-Tech and such. For my birthday party my family made me a surprise party like they have done last five years. Which is funny, until that we used to cook with our family for two days, for the big evening, when we will all over eat. And then eat some more!

This is Australian money. Very beautiful, I was WOWing it pretty long time. And it has a little transparent plastic part in the lower right corner. Unfortunately my cousin and her boyfriend, who came all the way from Estonia that birthday evening, were leaving to Australia the next morning. I hope they are happy and happier over there, in a worry-free sunshine land.

Few days went by and I became an UNCLE! Feels still weird. Maybe because my sister is younger then me and it's weird, when your baby sister does all these adult things. Although she's married already over a year and living in their own house!

Shortly after that I've decided to change my life for a healthier life. On 16th of May I woke up that morning and decided that I want to try a juice fast! It's when you drink for some period of time only fresh made juices. No solid food! For inspiration I've watched "Fat, sick and nearly dead". I've juiced all kind of greens and fruits and veggies I could reached. When I've reached my FOURTEENTH DAY of drinking only OMG how heavenly juices, I felt it's time to stop. The weight dropped four kilograms. After that I continued with raw food. Maybe it will become my new way of life. I've lost 9 kilograms in total since I've started with juicing.

New camera lens! Nikkor 85mm F1,8! I've been thinking of getting this for a very many years. It was worth waiting!

I love when my dear friends come to visit me from Estonia!

On the 4th June I went to Tallinn to shoot an Indian dance event. I think everyone should sometimes see something that different from your own culture. It's refreshing.

This last shot is very special. Even though the "lighting" is weird, I look weird and the quality is crappier than anything in this world. But the moment was one in a life time, when a tired and skinny photographer is sailing from one capital city to the other at 11 PM, standing alone on a ship deck, enjoying the sunset on horizont, strong yet warm wind. The deck was totally empty and even the bars were closed. It was Tuesday night and it was magical.

Always high on life,
Aalo

Late night munchies

Yesterday I was visiting my sister and her husband. No special occasion, just us, eating a lot of food. After few plates of delicious pasta with sun dried tomato pesto and a bit of ice-cream I was done. How disappointing?! We had the fridge full of food and later on we went for a further food hauling to the stores. Ring a boring alarm, if you wish. But all the smoked salmon, apple pies and puddings were left untouched!

Few days ago I received a new camera and I'm loving it! It's the Sony NEX F3K! Tiny, compact but powerful! Especially if you are post processing your photos anyway, it might be a better choice than a regular heavy DSRL, in my opinion! Since last year I've been eagering for a tiny cute little cam for everyday use, something small that fits into the pocket but has still high quality. Well this Sony doesn't fit into any of my pockets with that KIT lens but it fulfills all the other criterion like shooting with RAW, lightweight and small, advantaged and versatile, comes with Full HD video possibilities and good high ISO performance. I am a pretty bitch what comes to photography, aren't I? Well, I hope I am!

My eyebrows and eyelashes look funny! I dyed my eyelashes with a permanent dye and bleached my eyebrows myself. That's why you can see only the shadow of my brows! Okay okay I admit it's the roots showing of my badly bleached eyebrows! :D

By the way, now I have an Instagram now! Check me out here!

Take my picture, Mr Cameraman

April has already began and it's sunny all the time. Especially after the dark satanic trio months, i. e. December, January and February, when according to Wikipedia the monthly sunshine rating is only 38 hours, you feel so full of life and less depressed now. It's a beginning of the new year for me!

Even though my blog was quit dead during the whole March, I've been mega busy doing all kind of fun stuff. Like photographing my friends and myself for Lookbook, watching fashion documentaries, planning my summer trips and ordering tons of stuff online. Some buddies keep wondering where do I store all my stuff? I have no idea! Perhaps in my Narnia closet?

One evening a friend came over. You know, some of my friends ask me all the time, when will I shoot them. I feel like shoe-maker with bare feet. Or like a professional cook who has no time to prepare dinner for own family. Not long time ago I received LED video light from somewhere Asia, it's truly amazing and it really did spice up my photography. So I taped turquoise blue sheet onto my wall as a background and told my friend to get ready for the shoot! I didn't really had any specific idea on my mind until she appeared wearing only my shirt and hat.

I have to admit she was pretty good in front of the camera, posing and stuff. But she lost her track very easily so I had to keep her focused to get the shots. This whole shooting lasted about 14 minute and I took around 150 photos, later narrowed it down to around 16 and 5 as you can see here.

The original background was something similar like on the single photo in the middle. On other photos I edited it with few clicks.

You can visit my photo homepage if you are knew to my photography here.

Hope you enjoyed it,
